Laine cut her first tooth today! She is 7 months and 3 weeks, so she is right around the "average" time for cutting teeth. I went to pick her up from her sitter today after school and Michele was changing her diaper on the floor. I sat down next to Laine and she (like ths often does) put my hand in her mouth (don't worry, I washed it) and I felt a little prick. Since I wasn't looking directly at Laine, I thought maybe her hand made its way into her mouth along with mine, but when I looked down I noticed that it must be something in her mouth because it wasn't her hand. Sure enough, it was something in her mouth!! A tooth! You can hardly see it right now, but if she lets you lift her tongue and look at her bottom left gum, you can see a little white tip. If I feel in her mouth, I can feel it much better than I can see it. This explains her random diaper rashes, because I know it's normal for babies to get a rash while teething and Laine definitely has been getting rashes. It's exciting to see her little tooth and I know she thinks it's neat because she constantly runs her little tongue over her tooth.
Also, she has mastered picking up her little Gerber graduate puffs. A few weeks ago at her 6 month checkup the doctor told us we could try to start her on the little graduate puffs and when I got home I tried to feed her some. She really didn't have any interest in them so I sort of backed off making her try them. Tonight, I attempted to put some on her highchair tray and she went straight for them and shoved a couple in her mouth. My mom always tells me not to force or rush anything, she'll do it when she's ready and I guess she's right. I hadn't even practiced with her on eating the puffs and all of a sudden she knows exactly what to do with them! We just LOVE her so much!
