Lainey Bug started preschool today and I was very anxious to see how she would do. Her sitter, Michele is SO wonderful and offered to take and pick Laine up from MDO while I was at work. I wanted to give Michele some free time during the day since her 4 kids are all in full day school this year. I know she LOVES keeping Laine, but she also wants to do some things for her kids' schools and for the foundation that they donate to for her kids' Diabetes. I had heard great things about Southlake Christian preschool and decided to enroll Laine back in early summer. One of the other teacher's at my school's baby goes there and she's heard great things about it too. When I toured back in July, I really loved it and loved the director so wanted to get Lainey on the list ASAP.
There are 8 kids in her class and she is one of only 2 girls. Right now she has no idea what the difference is, so it's fine that she's outnumbered. Jackson and I took off this morning so we could take her on her first day and meet her teachers. Michele met us there so she could meet the teachers too and see where the school was. We walked in and all the parents and kids were waiting in the foyer until we could get to the classrooms. It was VERY weird being on the parent side of the "first day" and I sort of felt out of place. The teachers were all out of their rooms greeting us and guiding us down the hall and it really made me realize how MUCH my parents just want the best for their students. Once we reached her room (she's an elephant by the way) the split door was closed on the bottom and we were to just hand over their stuff and then pass the kids over as well. It's the most logical way to make sure parents don't linger around forever, but it was also hard to just pass her off. Once she was in the room, I told her I loved her again and she just nodded her head like, "ok, mommy..bye bye". We stayed around for a few minutes to watch what they all did and she mostly sat down in the chairs and watched. The teachers did get out some colors and paper and she colored for about 2 seconds and then lost interest. We left around that point, but I could've stayed and watched her all day. Michele took me to Starbucks and we had coffee and talked until I had to be at work at 11:30. I think next week, she'll be a little more hesitant of going but then she'll LOVE it.
