Half-Marathon Training

When Laine was born I realized that I probably wouldn't be using my gym membership very often anymore since I wasn't going to take her to a gym daycare or leave her at home with her daddy after being gone from her all day at work, so I had to pick a new workout routine. I tried Insanity about 10 months after she was born and did the whole thing like it said to, but I just didn't like all of the squats and plyo stuff. After I realized Insanity wasn't the workout for me I was on the lookout for something else...

I decided one day to try out running and it was basically no looking back from there on out. We bought a jogging stroller so Laine could go with me and I started running a couple of miles a couple times a week. I think my longest run with her in the stroller was 4 miles. After a few months of running with her, I decided to really take up running and making it my workout. Once Laine was a little older, I didn't feel so horrible about leaving her for a while after work a couple of times a week. I wanted to start running further distances and with the jogging stroller it's sort of hard to run 6 miles, so I would run with her once a week and then twice a week (once on Saturday while she was asleep) I'd make a longer route and try and push my distance. I think my farthest run in the old house was about 7 miles. Once I could run that far with no problem, I decided to register for a 10K. The one that happened to be coming up next was the Cowtown, so the Cowtown 10K it was. You too can re-live that experience by going to this post. When that race was over I told myself that I wanted to run the half the next year, so that puts me up to date with where I am now.

I am currently training to run the 13.1 miles and complete my first half marathon. I can't believe I'm actually doing this, but at the same time I extra excited to check an accomplishment such as this off my "bucket list". Today was an 8.4 mile run and it was very smooth, probably thanks to Mike at Luke's Locker for fitting me in the MOST comfortable running shoes on the planet, the Brooks Ghost III or IIII (I can't remember). I can't wait to share my finish time and experience with my blog readers once this is over. The run is Feb. 26th, so say a little prayer for me that morning that things go well :)))

Good luck! You'll do great!! Also, I switched to Brooks 2 summers ago and they are the best shoes ever! So comfortable.

That's awesome! I am way behind you, but hopefully I can catch up so we can be running buddies. I can run to your house and we go from there!!
